“Six o’clock on Tuesday” is incomplete when the family and teacher are in different timezones. Add the date and the timezone being used. Seasonal clock changes can alter the difference between two locations, so an old conversion should not be copied indefinitely.
Use a city or timezone, not only a country
Countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia have more than one timezone, and local clock rules can vary. Tell the academy the city where you will actually attend or a timezone identifier such as Europe/London. Avoid an abbreviation that the other person might interpret differently.
Include the next lesson’s calendar date in a confirmation. A conversion near midnight can move the class to a different local day.
Understand what is staying fixed
Ask whether the booking is tied to the family’s local time or another reference timezone. If one location changes its clocks, keeping the same reference time may change the displayed time elsewhere. The academy needs to confirm the intended arrangement; a phone changing its clock does not automatically change a booking.
For a hypothetical example, suppose two cities are initially four hours apart. If one moves its clock back an hour and the other does not change, the difference changes. Recheck the specific class date rather than using this example as a timetable conversion.
Check official clock-change information
For the UK, GOV.UK explains the change between British Summer Time and Greenwich Mean Time. Its 2026 calendar lists the clocks going back on 25 October. That date is a UK example, not a schedule for every country or region.
Consult the appropriate official information for your location and confirm the class with the academy. Updates to a regional rule or a future year can make a saved screenshot outdated.
Check the portal’s display timezone
In the Student & Family Portal, choose the timezone in Preferences that matches where you want times displayed. Then check the upcoming class entry. Changing the display setting changes how the time appears on your device; it does not itself reschedule the lesson.
If the portal entry and a message disagree, ask the academy which booking is correct. Avoid sending a new time request without explaining the discrepancy.
Tell the academy before travelling
Travel can change both your timezone and your availability. Confirm whether you will attend at the same booked instant or need an approved schedule change. Recheck all linked children’s entries if a family is travelling together.
A confirmation message you can adapt
“We will attend from [city/timezone] next week. Please confirm [child’s name]’s lesson on [date] at [local time] and the reference timezone. We have not requested a reschedule; we are checking the conversion.” If you do need a change, say so explicitly and wait for confirmation.
Before the clock-change weekend
- Check whether your location changes its clocks.
- Confirm the next lesson date and timezone.
- Check the portal display setting and class entry.
- Update your reminder only after the booking is clear.
GOV.UK: When do the clocks change? Checked 8 October 2026. Always use the current calendar for the relevant location and year.
